Getting involved

You can get involved in the referendum and elections by working for the AEC as a temporary employee. This type of work involves:

  • paid work
  • short-term employment opportunities
  • on-the-job training and support
  • a unique work experience and an opportunity to gain new skills

A range of roles are available:

  • Polling place workers – greet voters, check for names on the voter list, give out ballot papers, guard ballot boxes, and assist with end of day activities.
  • Mobile polling workers, including remote mobile polling – work as part of a team that conducts polling in a range of locations, including remote locations and nursing homes, conducting similar duties to polling place workers.
  • Remote mobile polling assistants – provides a point of contact and support within the community for the remote mobile team.
